What is a dental implant for?
A dental implant is placed in the jawbone to support a restoration when this is clinically appropriate. It can be part of replacing a single missing tooth or a broader treatment plan. A missing tooth does not automatically mean an implant is the right option: bone volume, neighbouring teeth, gum health, the bite and general health all need to be considered.
At Harmony Clinic in Gueliz, the first stage is therefore assessment and treatment planning rather than immediate intervention.
Assessment before implant treatment
The consultation includes a clinical examination and a review of the dental history. Appropriate imaging may be required to evaluate bone and nearby anatomical structures. The dentist also checks the soft tissues and factors that may affect healing.
Some cases require preliminary or additional procedures, while others do not. These cannot be assumed before the clinical and radiographic assessment.
Treatment stages and long-term care
When an implant is indicated, treatment is organised in stages: site preparation, implant placement, healing when required, and the final restoration. The timeline varies from person to person.
Implants need careful cleaning and regular review. The tissues around an implant can become inflamed, and smoking, general health, hygiene and mechanical loading can influence prognosis. No exact lifespan can be guaranteed.
